Handle With Great Care Dentures are made of sensitive material. When dropped, they may easily break or crack, costing you greatly in repairs or replacement. Hence, utmost care should be taken when handling them. Avoid being playful when removing them, as they may accidentally fall and break. Also, you may place a towel or rug beneath you when handling them. When eating or cleaning your mouth, be careful not to bend the plastics or clasps. Be gentle when inserting objects into your mouth.

Clean Your Dentures After Eating After eating, remove your dentures and run water over them, to get rid of food debris and other loose particles. You may brush them a slightly with your toothbrush (not with toothpaste). You may use hand wash or mild cleaners to clean your dentures. It's advisable to wash (brush) your dentures each day.

Proper Storage When not Worn When not worn, dentures need to be stored in a moist environment. This helps them not to dry up and lose their shape. If you don't have a denture cleanser soaking solution, you may store them in distilled water. Special care needs to be given to dentures with metal parts. It's important to note that dentures should not be placed in hot water.

Clean Your Oral Cavity After Removing the Dentures Clean your teeth using a soft brush with medical toothpaste after removing your dentures. Also, make sure to clean your tongue, cheeks and palate with a soft toothbrush or a gauze to remove any bacteria hiding. If you had used any adhesives, make sure to remove them completely from your gum. Before putting dentures back to your mouth, make sure to wash them thoroughly, especially if you had soaked them in a denture solution. Denture solutions have chemicals that may cause burns, pains or even vomiting.

Your dentist may check if the dentures are still properly fitting to avoid discomfort and slippage. In addition, loose dentures will easily be noted and replaced by your dentist during checkups.
